Segregated plant parts were left to air dry up to 14 days in clean sample preparation rooms to avoid cross-contamination of the samples. Dry samples were then prepared for inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analysis by grinding into a fine powder using a portable electric coffee grinder (NIMA, Japan).

R1 data was collected from 3-tagged samples from each pot. Observation were recorded for flag leaf type, plant height, panicle length, culm thickness, number of florets per spikelet, number of spikelets per panicle, panicle form, main panicle weight, 1000 seed weight and grain yield /main panicle.
